C Gilbert Zahren, 65, Dies: Final rites Saturday
Charles Gilbert Zahren son of Peter Chris and Anna Weber Zahren, was born Dec. 13,1898, at Lost Nation, Iowa. He died of a heart condition at the Dickinson County Memorial Hospital Oct. 7, 1964, at the age of 65 years, nine months and 24 days.
Mr. Zahren lived in the vicinity of Lost Nation, where he was baptized in the Lutheran faith and later joined the Methodist Church in Lake Park. In 1910 the family moved to a farm northwest of Everly, Iowa. He was united in marriage to Charlotte Edith Lenz in Spencer, Iowa, Dec. 17, 1919. To this union were born four children, two sons and two daughters, Herma, Mrs. Glenn Hensley, of Baldwin, Wis., Cecil of Lake Park, Lois, Mrs. Don Vetter of Larrabee, Iowa, and Gerald of Lake Park.
They farmed in Dickinson and O'Brien county until 1930, when the family moved to Lake Park, where he was engaged in construction work and employed as a mechanic until February, 1962, when his health forced him to retire.
Preceding him in death were two grandsons, his parents, two brothers, William and Amel, and a sister, Elizabeth, Mrs. Clifford Garlick.
Left to cherish his memory besides his wife and children, he leaves his daughters-in-law, his sons-in-law, 15 grandchildren, one great-granddaughter, a sister, Edna, Mrs. Floyd Hakeman of Sutherland, and three brothers, J. H. Zahren of Independence, Edward of Sutherland, nd Harry of Lake Park, as well as many nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
Final rites took place at the Methodist Church in Lake Park at 1 p. m. Saturday, Oct. 10, with the Rev. Harley Carbaugh officiating. The Leyson Funeral Home of Lake Park was in charge of the arrangements. Steven Hensley of Eau Claire, Wis., a grandson, sang "How Great Thous Art. Mrs. Carroll Burns and Mrs. Hadley Shafer sang "In the Sweet By and By." Mrs. C. E. Arnold was the organist. The pall bearers were nephews: Charles Zahren, Harold Hakeman, Wayne Hakeman, Arlo Lenz, Milo Lenz and James Lenz. Interment was in the Silver Lake Cemetery.
