James "Jim" William Lenz was born January 30, 1929 in Lake Park, IA to Adam and Nettie (Berger) Lenz. He attended school in Lake Park. Following graduation, he worked at various jobs before joining the U.S. Air Force in August of 1950. He was stationed in Newfoundland and the Baffin Islands, where he was injured in the fall of 1951. He received a medical discharge.
Jim was united in marriage to Barbara Kania on February 18, 1952. They ran a service station in Montgomery, IA, then Jim worked for Firestone in Esterville, IA. He farmed and had a dairy herd near Lake Park, IA. They moved to northern Minnesota in 1967 where he farmed near Sturgeon Lake. In 1969 he bought a farm in Russell and dairy farmed until 1980. He sold his farm and moved to Garvin, where he purchased the school and remodeled it to become Garvin Auto Parts. He fixed cars and sold automobile parts. In 2000 Jim retired because of ill health. He enjoyed visiting with people, gardening, raising his animals on the farms he owned. He also loved to play pool and especially loved being with family and friends and lending a helping hand whenever he could. He loved collecting Lincoln automobiles.
James William Lenz passed away November 16, 2005 at his home in Garvin at the age of 76 years, nine months and 16 days.
James is survived by his sons Adam Dean Lenz of St. James, MO and Lester Ray Lenz of Marshall, MN; special friend, Betty Hardenberger of Garvin; a sister Marlene Gordon of Okoboji, IA; one grandson Brent Lenz and one granddaughter Dara Lenz; great grandson Lucas Boldt and two nieces and many friends.
James was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Kenneth; and daugher, Ellen.
Services were held Saturday, November 19, 2005 10:30 a.m. at the Tracy Area Funeral Home, Tracy, MN.
Officiant was Bruce Drackley.
Casket bearers were Jeremy Hartson, Chris Gullickson, Conrad Rasmussen, Don Wheeler, Dan Larson, Lonny Turner.
Interment was in Hoiland Cemetery, Garvin, MN.
