Kenny Lenz Killed in Camp
Kenneth Lenz, son of Mr. and Mrs. Adam Lenz of Lake Park was killed last Wednesday, Sept. 25 while on maneuvers with the army at Fort Lewis, Washington. Accidental detonating of ammunition fatally injured the young man, and he passed away en route to a hospital.
Kenneth Lyle Lenz, younger son of Adam and Nettie. Berger Lenz of Lake Park, was born on a farm south of Lake Park on Oct. 24, 1934, and was accidental killed Sept. 25, 1957 while in the service of his country at Fort Lewis, Washington. He was 22 years, 11 months and 1 day of age.
He moved with his parents to a farm, near Lake Park and attended the Lake Park school graduating with the class of 1953. He started farming in 1954. On June 24, 1955 he was united in marriage at Spirit Lake, Iowa to Helen Jane Mudder of Worthington, Minn.
In April 1957, he left for army duty, and on Sept. 1 his wife joined him at Fort Lewis, Washington. He was fatally injured on his wife's birthday while on bivouac with his company. His untimely departure is most keenly felt by his wife Helen his parents Mr. and Mrs. Adam Lenz; his brother James, sister Marlene, sister-in-law Barbara and nephew Adam Dean Lenz, all of Lake Park. He also leaves his maternal grandmother Mrs. Thomas Garrett of Long Beach, Calif, and his maternal grandfather, William Berger of Paris, Illinois, and a host of other relatives and friends. Kenneth's cheery smile and pleasant personality endeared him to everyone who had dealings with him. Pvt. Dick Long of Milford accompanied the body and Mrs. Lenz home from Washington. Pvt, Myron Louks of Claremont, Minn., brought the car and their belongings here.
Funeral services in charge of the Knowles-Leyson Funeral Home were held at the Lake Park school auditorium on Tuesday afternoon Oct. 1, Rev. John Reimer, pastor of the Baptist church at George, and who married Kenneth and Helen, was officiating clergyman. Karolynne Ritterholz sang "Beyond the Sunset" and "Ivory Palaces" accompanied by Mrs. C. E. Arnold. Pall bearers were his cousins: Milo and Arlo Lenz of Arnolds Park, Earl Titterington of West Liberty, Burdette Ahrens of Spencer, Gerald Zahren of Spirit Lake, and Cecil Zahren of Lake Park. Burial was in Silver Lake cemetery. He was buried with full military honors at the grave side
