Funeral services were held on Tuesday, Sept. 13.1983. for Leo (Pat) Owens, 73. of Lake Park at St. Joseph's Catholic Church with Father James Fandel officiating. Organ music was provided by Theresa Feldhacker, with Herman Richter singing "How Great Thou Art." Pall bearers were Clyde Weaver, Harm Wolthuis, Bill Ruml, Jerry Delaney, Charles Shorey and Jerry Johnson. Interment was in Calvary Cemetery in Milford.

Leo Owens was born to Patrick and Minnie Owens at Lake Park on Dec. 28,1909. He attended school at Excelsior, graduating in 1925. He was married to Beatrice Fellows at Milford on Dec. 26,1941. After graduation, Pat farmed with his father for approximately 12 years on the home farm. After his marriage, they moved to a farm one-half mile north of the home place and continued operating both places. Pat and Beatrice moved to the present location in March of 1967 and farmed all three places until he retired in 1971. He was an outdoorsman, loved animals and was an avid sportsman. Pat had a trustful faith in God, loved his family and enjoyed people of all ages.

He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church and was baptized in Milford. He was also an active member of the senior citizens of Spirit Lake and enjoyed playing pool with his many friends. In his younger years, he enjoyed hunting and fishing when time permitted him to leave his farming operation. After returning, he became active in trap shooting and many times he came home with the Christmas turkey or an Easter ham. e was an avid snowmobiler and took many cross country rides.

Pat passed away on Saturday. Sept. 10,1983, at the Dickinson County Memorial Hospital in Spirit Lake, following a bout with illness since June 1. 1982.

He is survived by his wife, Beatrice; his sister, Dorothy Ottele; one nephew and four nieces, four grand nephews and three grand nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Francis.
