Nick Lenz was born May 25, 1892, to Adam and Mary Lenz in Westport Township in Dickinson County, Iowa, and died about 5;30 p. m. Friday, Oct. 9, 1964, of a heart ailment at his home in Arnolds Park, at the age of 72 years, four months, and 14 days.
When he was 11 years old, God called his mother home, and from that time on Nick and his brother and sisters helped their father to maintain their home. Oct. 27, 1915, he was united in marriage to Verna C. Horton, and to this union three children were born: Arlo of Milford, Milo of Arnolds Park, and Wilma, Mrs, Dale Snell, of Lake Park.
After marriage he continued farming on his father's place in Westport, his father making his home there also until his death in 1942. During these many years on the farm, their door was always open wide to both friends and relatives. One who became one of the family and made his home with, them until his death was Elmer Haffensburger.
In 1945 Mr. and Mrs. Lenz moved to an acreage near Spirit Lake where they raised truck garden until 1947, when Mr. Lenz's health required him to retire, and they moved to Arnolds Park where he continued to live until his death. After his health improved he worked on the Spirit Lake and Arnolds Park police force for a time. In 1955 he became salesman for the Vigortone Feeds Company and continued until his death.
Mr. Lenz gave a great deal of his time helping and sharing with others, always putting their problems before his. His cheerful, friendly nature is known to many and he will be greatly missed.
Preceding him in death were his parents and four sisters. He leaves to mourn his passing: his wife, Verna, his two sons, Arlo and Milo; and one daughter, Wilma; two grandsons, two granddaughters, one great-granddaughter, also one brother, Adam, two sisters, Mrs. Charlotte Zahren and Mrs. Katherine Zahren, all of Lake Park, and many other relatives
