John Briggs Dies At 82

LOCKRIDGE - John H. Briggs, 82, retired farmer, died Saturday at 10:10 a.m. at his home in Lockridge. He had been in failing health for several months.

Services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Weston Behner Funeral Home in Fairfield with the Rev. Lenwood Monte officiating. Burial will be in Lockridge Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home tonight from 7 to 8:30 o'clock.

Briggs had been a resident of the Lockridge community for 70 years. He was born Nov. 5, 1891 in Burlington, the son of John W. and Adeline Butts Briggs. He was married to Ollie Erickson Feb. 21, 1917. He was a member of the New Sweden Methodist Church.

Briggs is survived by his widow and two children: Mrs. Verna Spangler, Crawfordsville; and Robert Briggs, Lockridge. Also surviving are four grandchildren and three sisters: Mrs. Della Taylor, Mrs. Florence Caviness and Mrs. Mary Koehler, all of Cedar Rapids.

He was preceded in death by two sisters and two brothers.
