Another Pioneer Claimed by Death

"Grandma Bridges" Passes Away at Her Home Xmas-Lived Here 50 years

Funeral services for Mrs. Mary "Grandma" Bridges, 83 years old, and a pioneer resident of Mapleton who passed away at her home Christmas morning following a lingering illness, were held in her home with Rev. C. Van _____, pastor of the Methodist church officiating.

Interment was in Mt. Hope Cemetery under the direction of the Duschel Funeral Home.

Mary Catherine Kline, daughter of Jacob and Mary Kline was born at Dodgeville, Ia. October 18, 1849. She married John Thomas Bridges at Dodgeville, Ia. March 8, 1868.

In 1873 they moved to Fremont County, Iowa, where they made their home until 1883. They moved to Mapleton March 8 of that year and have made their home here constantly.

Mr. Bridges preceded his wife in death in 1920.

Mrs. Bridges was a real pioneer in this community, having lived here continuously and in the same home for fifty years, save but two months.

She was always ready to serve and help in every good work. She had been a member of the Baptist church for 42 years.

She is survived by her daughter, Mrs. Estella K. McVicker of Sheldon. Another daughter, Cora E. Cox, preceded her in death in 1927 and her son, Louis L. Bridges, preceded her in death in 1929. She is also survived by 9 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren.
