Dennis Leon Luttenegger, age 48, of Mediapolis, Iowa, died Wednesday afternoon, May 3, 2000, at his home after an extended illness. The son of Leon H. and Helen Conn Luttenegger, he was born August 19, 1951 at Burlington, Iowa.

Dennis graduated from Mediapolis High School in 1969 and from Southeastern Community College at West Burlington 1971 with a degree in mechanical drafting. He then served in the Army National Guard out of Mt. Pleasant for six years. Dennis was a self employed electrician and also enjoyed farming with his parents.

He enjoyed sports, always being involved with his children. He was active and donated a lot of work for the school athletics.

He had attended the Yarmouth Baptist Church. He was a member of the Mediapolis Booster Club.

Survivors include a daughter, Tenile Luttenegger of Burlington; a son, Travis Luttenegger of Mediapolis; his mother, Helen Luttenegger of Oakville; three sisters, Cindy Klenk of Mediapolis, Flora (Bob) Metzger of Yarmouth, and Rose (Curtis) Schmitz of Burlington; six nieces and nephews; numerous cousins, great-nieces and nephews, uncles and aunts; and two special family friends. Layne Thomas of Mediapolis and Chris Cooper of Burlington.

He was preceded in death by his father, Leon.

The funeral ceremony for Dennis Luttenegger was held at 10 am Saturday, May 6, 2000, at the Yarmouth Baptist Church with the Rev. Brian Betts officiating. Music was provided by Korkee Carruthers, organist, and Korkee and Carrie Carruthers, vocalist. Casket bearers were Rod Whitaker, Mark Wagler, Dan Weber, Bob Hauenstein, Sam Schnedler, and George Marhoff. Burial followed at the Kossuth Cemetery with military rites by the Mediapolis American Legion.

Visitation was Friday at the Hagele and Honts Funeral Home at Mediapolis where the family met with friends in the evening.

A memorial fund has been established for the benefit of the Mediapolis High School Athletics Department.
