Rita Philomena Stodt, 78, of West Burlington, died at 1045 p.m., Monday, Feb. 23, 1998, at Burlington Medical Center.
Born Sept. 29, 1919, in West Burlington, she was the daughter of Richard and Philomena "Minnie" Agnes Strouhal Stodt.
Miss Stodt attended St. Mary's and West Burlington schools in West Burlington. She worked at U.S. Borax of Burlington for 91/2 years, retiring in 1979.
She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of West Burlington, its Altar and Rosary Society and Speedsters Bowling League. Her hobby was writing and receiving letters from pen pals.
Survivors include three sisters, Mary Esther Stodt of West Burlington, Lillian Horlyck of Clemson, S.C., and Teresa Bigley of San Mateo, Calif.; 11 nieces and nephews; and nine great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters.
Visitation will be after 8 a.m. Thursday at Lunning Chapel, where the family will receive friends until 830 p.m. following a 7 p.m. Christian wake service.
The funeral for Miss Stodt will be at 1030 a.m. Friday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, with the Rev. Gerald Stouvenel officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, West Burlington.
Memorials have been established to Dr. A.J.'s Cancer Research Fund and St. Mary's Grotto Fund.
