Former CB&Q Employ Dies
Special to the Hawk-Eye Gazette
Mt. Pleasant, Ia. – Walter J. [James] Jarvis, 79, 609 N. Adams street, Mt. Pleasant, retired Burlington railway employe and farmer, died Thursday [October 29, 1942] night following a stroke about four weeks ago.

He was employed for nearly 40 years with the railr1860oad serving as assistant secretary. About 20 years ago, he bought the farm near Oakland Mills and had resided there much of the time since. More recently he and Mrs. Jarvis spent their winters in warmer climates.

Jarvis is survived by his widow, the former Sara J. [Sarah Jane] Sowden of Burlington and one son, Rowling Jarvis, Minneapolis, Minn.

Funeral services will be held from the Crane funeral home in Mt. Pleasant Sunday at 2 p.m., in charge of Dr. Laura B. Galer, pastor of the Universalist church. Burial will be in Aspen Grove cemetery here. (Burlington Hawk Eye Gazette, Burlington, IA, October 31, 1942)
