John Frederick Riepe, who had been a resident of Des Moines County all of his life, died at his home southwest of Sperry Sunday afternoon, June 22, 1941. He was born in Flint River Township August 10, 1862, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Herman Riepe. February 22, 1887, he was united in marriage with Anna Heitmeier who preceded him in death.

He was a member of the Methodist Church. He is survived by six daughters and three sons: Mrs. Esther Boyer, Biggsville, Illinois; Mrs. Nellie Bachenberg, Lincoln, Nebraska; Mrs. Anna Walker, New London; Mrs. Florence Schmidt and Margaret and Velma, of Des Moines County; Carl, Paul and Dewey Riepe of Des Moines County. Five brothers, Henry, Herman, Ed, August, and William Riepe of Des Moines County and one sister, Mrs. Martha Hunger of Burlington. Funeral services were held at the Old Stone Church Tuesday afternoon with interment at the church cemetery.
