Raymond Hillgartner

Raymond W. Hillgartner, 77, of Fairfield, formerly of Danville, died Friday, June 29, 2012, at New London Nursing and Rehab Center.

Born July 26, 1934, in Burlington, he was the son of Carl and Tekla Miller Hillgartner. On Feb. 27, 1954, he married Patricia Ellen Wood in Burlington.

Mr. Hillgartner was a farmer, truck driver, cattleman and a shipping clerk at Ceco in Mount Pleasant.

He was a member of the Cattlemen's Association and Farm Bureau. He enjoyed fishing, boating, camping, nature, bird-watching and being outdoors. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan. He also enjoyed the Black Angus Show at the State Fair pavilion, his cocker spaniel and, most of all, his grandchildren. .

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Morris Hillgartner of Lockridge and Rick Hillgartner of Harlan; five daughters, Rhonda Mathews and Cheryl Rich, both of Mount Pleasant, Roberta Benge of Kansas City, Mo., Margaret Coleman of Danville and Sheila Blomme of Stockport; 15 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; four nephews; and one niece.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one sister.

Visitation will be from noon to 7 p.m. Monday at Elliott Chapel in New London, with family receiving friends from 5 to 7 p.m.

The funeral service for Mr. Hillgartner will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Elliott Chapel. Burial will be in Jaggar Cemetery in rural Danville.

A memorial has been established.
