HENRY J. BEHNE, RETIRED RAIL CAR INSPECTOR,DIES
Henry J. Behne, 2002 Vogt street, died early this morning at his home after being ill only one day.
He was born in Germany, Jan. 27, 1861, and came direct to Burlington with his parents when he was eight years old. He has lived here since that time. In 188_ he was married to Sophia Detjen, who survives. For 35 years he was a car inspector to Burlington Route yards, from which occupation he retired in 1922. He was a member of the First Evangelical church.
Besides his wife, he is survived by four sons, John of Fairfield, Ia, Albert of Fremont, Ohio, George of Clyde, Ohio and Walter of Burlington; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. One son and one daughter preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon at 3 o'clock at the First Evangelical church. The body will be taken to the residence from Burnett-Wallen funeral home at 10 a.m. Saturday and will be taken to the church at 2:30 Sunday afternoon. Burial will be in Aspen Grove cemetery and services will be in charge of the Rev. J.H. Buescher.The Hawkeye Gazette, Friday, June 10, 1938, page 2.
