Mr. Leonard LaVerne Anderson, 81, of Burlington died at 9:27 p.m. Wednesday, January 21, 2015, at Great River Hospice House in West Burlington.
Born September 12, 1933 in Burlington, he was the son of John Arthur and Plommie Elmira (Jackson) Anderson. On April 14, 1956 he married Paula Louise Edwards in Burlington.
Mr. Anderson was an Army veteran. In his younger years he worked at Schwartz's Grocery Store. He also worked at Pratt's Heating and Air Conditioning and the Burlington Waste Water Treatment Plant, retiring in 1995.
Mr. Anderson was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church, Eagles Aeire #150 and the Moose Lodge #579. He coached Little League and collected coins. He enjoyed dancing, playing bridge with his friends, traveling to Texas, painting, gardening, canning and processing deer. He loved his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and his dog "Texas". Mr. Anderson was a hard worker.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Paula Anderson of Burlington; three sons, Jeffrey (Debra) Anderson of Bonaire, Georgia, Bryan Anderson of Burlington and Glenn (Alma) Anderson of Iowa City; ten grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; one brother, Charles Anderson of Middletown; and one sister, Violet Niehaus of Burlington.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Clarence Anderson and one sister Irma Kuntz.
The memorial funeral service for Mr. Anderson will be 3 p.m. Saturday, January 24th, at Messiah Lutheran Church with the Rev. Susanne Smith officiating. A dessert reception will be held at the church following the memorial service. The Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard will conduct Military Rites. Inurnment will be at a later date in Evergreen Cemetery, Fairfield.
Memorials have been established for Messiah Lutheran Church, EMS Burlington Fire Department or the Donor's Choice.
Cremation has been accorded and entrusted to Lunning Chapel.
