Mrs. Betty Jane Houtz, 87, of Wapello died at 9:15 a.m. Thursday, January 22, 2015, at Great River Hospice House.
Born August 15, 1927 in Mount Pleasant, she was the daughter of Charles and Frances (Keller) Schindall. On July 19, 1948 she married George Houtz in Waterloo. He preceded her in death on December 11, 2014.
Betty was a homemaker. She enjoyed ceramics, collecting things, painting, playing cards, listening to audio books and being with her family.
Survivors include four daughters, Linda S. (Russell Hopping) Houtz of Oakville, Judy Houtz of Minooka, Illinois, Cyndi (Bob) Zimmerman of Naperville, Illinois and Karen (Dan) McConahay of Wapello; one son, David (Mary) Houtz of Fort Madison; 11 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; sister, Joyce Burtalo of Burlington; sister-in-law, Barbara Schindall of Burlington and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one grandson, two brothers and two sisters.
The funeral service for Betty will be 2 p.m. Monday, January 26th, at Lunning Chapel with the Rev. Dean Graber officiating. Interment will be in Burlington Memorial Park Cemetery.
A memorial has been established.
