Dorothy Anna Frey, of Burlington, died at 630 a.m. Monday, Dec. 30, 1996 at Burlington Medical Center.
Born Dec. 18, 1914, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Frank and Anna Orth Brust. On April 8, 1942, she married George Frey in Iowa City.
Mrs. Frey attended St. Patrick's School in Burlington and National Tea of Chicago, Ill. She was the first woman manager of a grocery store in Iowa. In 1943, she owned/operated Frey's Confectionary. She worked several years at International Resistor Corp. in Burlington.
She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Altar and Rosary Society, Knights of Columbus Auxiliary, VFW Auxiliary and Elks Auxiliary.
Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Marti-Kay Woodring and Debra R. Frey, both of Burlington; two sons, George F. Frey and Dennis J. Frey, both of Burlington; four grandchildren; two sisters, Ethyl Stumpf and Kathleen Garnant, both of Burlington; several nieces and nephews; great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister and one brother.
Visitation will begin after 9 a.m. Wednesday at Lunning Chapel, where the family will receive friends following a rosary at 3 p.m. until 5 p.m.
The funeral for Mrs. Frey will be 1030 a.m. Thursday at St Patrick's Catholic Church, with the Rev. Gerald Stouvenel officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.
A memorial has been established for Burlington Area Catholic School System.
