George John Frey, 85, of Burlington, died at 1:10 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 9, 2002, at Great River Medical Center's Klein Center.
Born March 11, 1916, in Muscatine, he was the son of George W. and Kathryn Fuller Frey. On April 8, 1942, he married Dorothy Brust. She died Dec. 30, 1996.
Mr. Frey was an X-ray technician for 23 years. He also was an inspection foreman for the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant.
He was a graduate of St. Mary's High School in Muscatine. He was a member of St. Mary's and Patrick Catholic Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 10102, American Legion Post 52, Elks, Moose Lodge 579, Eagles FOE 59 and was a 4th Degree Knights of Columbus. He was a World War II Army veteran with the rank of master sergeant.
Survivors include two daughters, Marti-Kay Woodring and Debra R. Frey, both of Burlington; two sons, George F. Frey and Dennis J. Frey, both of Burlington; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and one foster brother.
Visitation will be from 1 to 8:30 p.m. today at Lunning Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. A rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m.
The funeral for Mr. Frey will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, with the Rev. Jerry Stouvenel officiating. Burial with military rites conducted by Veterans of Foreign Wars Posts 10102 and 9162, the Marine Corps League and American Legion Post 52 will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.
A memorial has been established in his memory.
