Daniel "Frenchie" Edward French, 84, of Burlington, died at 6:30 a.m. Thursday, July 26, 2001, at the home of his daughter in Burlington.
Born Aug. 31, 1916, in Burlington, he was the son of Daniel T. and Nellie Mary Wolf French. He married Norma B. Richardson on Feb. 8, 1946, in Monmouth, Ill. She died Oct. 13, 1979.
Mr. French was a retired bus driver for the city of Burlington. Prior to that, he worked for the CC camps in Arkansas and then transferred to Keosauqua Lake Lacey. He also worked at Lehigh Leopold.
He attended Flint Hills Church of the Nazarene and volunteered at Burlington Medical Center for more than 18 years.
Survivors include two daughters, Sharon Wolkenhauer of Burlington and Patricia Messer of Wapello; five grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Esther Turner and Helen Murphy, both of Burlington; and two brothers, Robert French of Ohio and Richard French of Lakeland, Fla.
Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and two brothers.
Visitation will begin at 8 a.m. today in Lunning Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m.
The funeral for Mr. French will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Lunning Chapel, with Pastor Ron Jewett officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.
A memorial has been established.
