Reid Carithers Passes Away

Lifelong Resident of This Community

Reid Carithers, 78, lifelong resident of Morning Sun and widely known throughout this community, died Tuesday night at the home of his son, W. W. Carithers, south of town. Mr. Carithers had not been in good health for several months, but he had been able to be about the farm and make occasional trips to town until recent days. Monday he suffered a complete collapse and lapsed into a coma from which he failed to rally.

Mr. Carithers entered actively into the life of the community and of the church in which he served for a number of years in an official capacity. He is survived by his son, W. W. Carithers, with whom he made his home much of the time, and three grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at the. Sharon Reformed Presbyterian church Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock.

Isaiah Reid Carithers, son of Andrew French and Mary Reid Carithers, was born on a farm near Morning Sun on September 23, 1866, and passed away on July 17, 1945, having reached the age of 78 years, 9 months, and 24 days. He attended Rock Bottom school and later spent some time as a student in preparatory school at Geneva College. On December 12, 1888, he was united in marriage to Rosana Baird, and to this union were born two sons, J. French and W. Work Carithers. Of the immediately family, only W. W. Carithers survives, the wife and mother having died in 1937, and J. French Carithers in 1918. Surviving also are three grandchildren, Richard, Robert and Florence.

Mr. Carithers was active in the work of the Reformed Presbyterian church, having served for a number of years as deacon and later being ordained an elder.
