Betty Jean Wilson, 65, of Burlington, died Thursday, October 2, 2014, at the Great River Medical Center in West Burlington.

Born September 15, 1949, in Carthage, MO, she was the daughter of Reverend Marshall H. and Leetta Webb Thompson. She married Willie Wilson, Jr. in 1969 in Sikeston, MO.

Betty grew up and was raised in Sikeston. She worked as a housekeeper at Comfort Inn & Suites for 15 years before becoming ill.

She was a member of Greater Hope Missionary Baptist Church. She loved spending time with her family, taking rides, shopping, and visiting with family and friends. She also enjoyed helping others, cooking, and traveling. She was an avid basketball and boxing fan, her favorite boxer being Larry Holmes.

Survivors include her companion, Edward J. Perkins of Burlington; one son, Willie J. (Latonia) Wilson, III of Fort Wayne, IN; four daughters, Monica Thompson of Burlington, Teresa Wilson of St. Louis, MO, Falisa (Derrick) Carter of Colorado Springs, CO, and Shalonda D. Perkins of Burlington; one brother, Iva "Ricky" Thompson of Burlington; one sister, Georgia M. Thompson of Davenport; 18 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one uncle, Theodore Webb of Osceola, FL; three sisters-in-law, Pam Thompson of Ottumwa, Geraldine Webb of Burlington, and Clezal Thompson of Waco, TX; a special nephew, Carlos Thompson of Rock Island, IL; and many nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by one infant daughter, Mashana Perkins; one infant great-grandson, Jaidon Harris; five brothers, John Webb, Marshall H. Thompson Jr., Marshall H. Thompson, Reverend Oliver Thompson, and Tommie Lee Thompson; and two sisters, Georgia F. Thompson and Juanita Stewart.

Visitation will be from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM Friday, October 10, 2014, at Thielen Funeral Home, where the family will receive friends.

The funeral service for Ms. Wilson will be 11:00 AM Friday, October 10, 2014, at Thielen Funeral Home with Reverend A.L. Sparks officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove. A time of food and fellowship will be held at Greater Hope Missionary Baptist Church following the burial.

A memorial has been established.
