Mabel E. Strawhacker Baird, daughter of Charles Z. and Sarah Strawhacker, passed away July 26, 1954 at the age of 76 years at her home in Morning Sun. She was born in Akron, Ohio, and moved to Oakland, Iowa, with her parents at the age of three years. After the death of her parents in early girlhood, she lived with her sisters near Superior, Nebraska.

In 1898 she was united in marriage to Robert Baird, and to this union were born five daughters.

In 1904, with her husband she moved to Winfield, Iowa, and lived there until 1920 when they moved to Morning Sun, Iowa.

At an early age she united with the Baptist church, later transferring her letter to the United Presbyterian church and Presbyterian church.

She was a devoted mother. She loved her church and the work as a Sunday School teacher, and the Missionary society, in which she took an active part, always ready and willing to help wherever she could.

Her husband, Robert Baird, and an infant daughter preceded her in death. Surviving are Mildred Baird, Morning Sun; Mrs. Thelma Hutchins and Mrs. Vivian Paul, Griffith, Indiana; and Mrs. Dorothy Hetherington, St. Louis, Missouri. Four grandsons and two great-grandsons also survive.
