Well-Known Resident Passes Away
Last Rites for R. M. Baird Friday Afternoon.

Robert M. Baird, 79, a resident of Morning Sun for the past fourteen years, died about 11 a.m. Wednesday of this week, December 12th (1934) following a week's illness with pneumonia. The funeral services will be held at the Union church Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock, a brief service preceding at the home at 1:30. The interment will be at Elmwood cemetery.

Robert Baird, son of John and Catharine Baird, was born at the old home place five miles southeast of Morning Sun, Iowa, January 18, 1855. He grew to young manhood in the Sharon community and attended the Morning Sun school. When a young man he united with the Reformed Presbyterian church.

In 1882 he went to Superior, Nebraska, where he settled on a farm, and in 1898 was married to Mabel E. Strawhecker of that place. To this union were born five children, one of whom died in infancy. In 1904 he moved to Winfield, Iowa, living there until 1920, when he moved to Morning Sun.

In 1906 Mr. Baird was ordained an elder of the United Presbyterian church at Winfield. Later his membership was transferred to the United Presbyterian congregation of Morning Sun. He was faithful to his church and was a loving and devoted husband and father.

Preceding him in death were his parents, four sisters and three brothers.

The following members of his family survive: his wife, Mabel Baird four daughters, Mrs. C. M. Hutchins and Mrs. Earl Paul of Griffith, Indiana; Mrs. Ralph Hetherington and Mildred Baird of Morning Sun; one brother, Joe Baird of Morning Sun; two sisters, Mrs. I. R. Carithers of Morning Sun, and Mrs. Laura Myers of Kingston, Iowa; also four grandchildren. A host of friends and neighbors in Morning Sun and community join with these in mourning the passing of a beloved husband, father, friend and respected citizen.

His presence will be greatly missed in home and in church but the fragrance of his faith, devotion and loyalty will linger long in the memory of those who knew him.

And let my last end be like his."
