Novella Danette Shelton, 52, died Sunday, October 5, 2014 at the University of Iowa Hospital, Iowa City, Iowa. She was born August 23, 1962 in St. Louis, Missouri the daughter of David Lee Shelton and Raye Ann McHaskell Bramlett.
Novella was a registered nurse. She enjoyed her grandchildren, cooking, swimming, tennis and running. She obtained her cosmetology degree from the Dayton School of Cosmetology in Burlington and her RN degree at SCC.
She married Timothy Robinson in 1982; they later divorced. She married Julius Johnson in Las Vegas, Nevada in November of 2006.
Survivors include her husband Julius Johnson of Omaha, NE; four daughters, Elizabeth Kershner of Dubuque, IA, Victoriea Robinson and Kristina Robinson both of Burlington, IA and Sara Johnson of Grinnell, IA; two sons, Christopher Woodruf of Oklahoma City, OK, and Julius Johnson Jr. of Little Sioux, IA; her mother Raye Bramlett of Iowa City, IA; one sister Kellie (Michael) Greene of Los Angeles, CA; one brother Jonathan (Tyrell Towle) Bramlett of Seattle, WA; one niece Mya Greene; thirteen grandchildren, Zacariah, Amadeus, Phoenix, Taejon, Jashay, Trenton, Jada, Dimitri, Timothy, David, Jimani, Taraji, and Jayelle.
She was preceded in death by her father; step-father, Pastor Varnell Bramlett; maternal grandmother, Novella McHaskell; maternal grandfather, Louis McHaskell; paternal grandfather, Sedathon Shelton; one brother, David Shelton Jr.; paternal grandmother, Elizabeth Shelton; paternal grandmother, Marcella Ross;and one uncle, Sedathon Shelton Jr.
Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, October 11, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. in Union Baptist Church Full Gospel Fellowship. Rev. Lawrence Manson and Pastor James Salter will officiate. Interment will be at a later date. A memorial has been established for her grandchildren. Following the service a repast will be held at the church.
