W. Dougherty, assisted by Reverend H. G. Patterson and Reverend S. E. Boyle. The interment was at Sharon cemetery, the pallbearers being L. M. Edgar, Everett Cummings, Eugene Reed, M. W. Baird, A. M. Kilpatrick and Mel McElhinney, honorary bearers, I. R. Carithers and M. S. Hutcheson.

Joseph P. Baird, son of John and Catherine McElhinney-Baird, was born December 29, 1862, on the old homestead in the Sharon community. After two years of declining health, during which he was a most patient sufferer, he passed away August 20, 1942, at the age of seventy-nine years, seven months and twenty-one days. He was the last of a family of twelve children. His entire life was spent on the farm where he was born.
At an early age he united with the Sharon congregation of the Reformed Presbyterian church. Throughout his life he was faithful in his attendance upon the public services of the church, the cottage prayer meeting, and also served as an elder on the Sharon session, and Synod's Board of Control for many years. In the office of an elder his judgment was always fair and his desire was for the glory of God.
On January 20, 1898, he was married to Ida B. Faris. To this union nine children were born: Thurlow, who preceded him in death; Paul, at home; Howard and Orville of Hammond, Indiana; Cecil of Omaha, Nebraska; Rodman, Bruce, Robert and Harriet (Mrs. Earl Pogemiller) all of this vicinity.
In addition to his wife and eight children, eighteen grandchildren, one great-grandchild and many other relatives mourn his death, and as a pillar falling in a structure, the community and church share with his family in the loss of his presence
