Mr. Richard Conrad Maass, 87, of Burlington, died at 8:57 a.m. Monday, April 25, 2011, at his home.

Born April 27, 1923 in Roscoe, he was the son of Herman Conrad and Margarite Viola Schwartz Maass. On November 17, 1945 he married Emma Loretta Dickson in Burlington.

Mr. Maass was a Yarmouth High School graduate. He worked as a maintenance supervisor for the Iowa Department of Transportation for 42 years, retiring in April of 1985.

Mr. Mass was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church, the Eagles where he had served as past president and was a past member of the Iowa State Guard. He enjoyed golfing, woodworking, bowling and roller skating. He was an avid hunter and mushroom hunter. He loved kids.

Survivors include his wife, Loretta Maass of Burlington and one brother, Herman Maass of Burlington.

He was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters, an older brother in infancy and a younger brother in an auto accident.

Visitation will be from noon until 7 p.m. today in Lunning Chapel where the family will receive friends from 5 until 7 p.m.

The funeral service for Mr. Maass will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, April 28th, in Lunning Chapel with the Rev. Bruce DeRammelaere officiating. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.

Memorials have been established for Eagles Charities and Bethany Lutheran Church.
