Resident Here 48 Years Dies In Local Hospital

Ernest E. Wells, 53, resident of Burlington for 48 years, died at the Burlington hospital at 7:30 p.m. yesterday following an illness of 11 weeks duration. His home was at 1608 South Central avenue.

Mr. Wells was born in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, December 2, 1876, and came to Burlington with his parents when he was five years old. He was married in Burlington, February 12, 1901, to Clara Nantz, who survives him. They were the first couple married by the late Reverend T. S. Bovell, who was a pastor of Walnut Street Baptist church for many years and who is said to have officiated at more marriages than any other minister.

Mr. Wells was a member of Walnut Street Baptist church, A.O.U.W., Burlington Lodge No. 2, and M.W.A. camp 98. He was employed by the Frank Ritzinger Produce company here for 25 years.

Surviving besides his widow are three sons, Frank R., John E. and Albert N., all of Burlington; two brothers, Floyd A. Wells of Cedar Rapids and Clarence Wells of Burlington, one sister, Mrs. Carl Adolph of Burlington, and three grandchildren.

The body was taken to the Burnett-Wallen funeral home until funeral arrangements can be made. Burial will be in Aspen Grove cemetery.
