Winifred I. Hartman, 78, of New London, died at 7:16 a.m. Tuesday, February 4, 1992, at University Hospitals, Iowa City.

Born July 3, 1913, in Burlington, she was the daughter of William and Bessie Crabb Anhalt. She married Lester Hartman Sr. July 20, 1932, in Burlington. She was a graduate of Burlington High School. She was a housewife and of the Protestant faith.

Survivors include her husband; seven sons, Kenneth Hartman of Wapello, Richard Hartman of Fairfield, Fred Hartman of Winfield, Larry Hartman of Oquawka, Illinois, Lester Hartman Jr. of New London, Ronnie Hartman of Stronghurst, Illinois, and Dennis Hartman of Columbus Junction; two daughters, Alice Wiley of LaHarpe, Illinois, and Judith Jones of Morning Sun; one sister, Genevieve "Peg" Thompson of San Diego, California; 37 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, and nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and three great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Elliott Chapel in New London.

The funeral for Mrs. Hartman will be 2 p.m. Saturday at the Elliott Chapel with the Reverend Rod Cooper officiating. Burial will be in Burge Cemetery.

A memorial has been established.
