A Good Woman Gone
Mrs. Anna Dorothea Daries Passed Away Yesterday
Hundreds of friends will learn with sincere regret that Mrs. Anna Daries is no more. She passed away yesterday afternoon, at the family home on the corner of South and Seventh streets. Mrs. Daries had been suffering from bronchitis for a number of years. Shortly after Christmas her condition changed for the worse, but her death was entirely unexpected, a grievous shock to the family, who fairly worshiped her. At noon she seemed to be resting comfortably, and there was every hope that she would recover. She suffered greatly, but bore her trials with Christian fortitude. She was a good woman, devoted to her children, a home maker in all that the word implies. She was widely known, and will be missed and mourned by all who knew her.

Anna Dorothea Giffey was born in Prussia, July 27, 1831. In 1854, with her family, she crossed the Atlantic. The newcomers made a new home for themselves in the west, and in January, 1859, Miss Giffey became the wife of the Rev. F. Daries. The union proved a happy one, and was blessed with seven children. Mr. and Mrs. Daries lived at Cape Giradeau, Mo., Pleasant Hill and Nashville, Ill., the husband preaching the Word until 1876, when he was called to the other shore. The family moved to Burlington in 1883, making this their permanent home. Here they lived with the Rev. F. Daries, the popular pastor of St. Lukes church, until his removal from the city in 1896.

Mrs. Daries is survived by the following children: Rev. Frederick Daries, of Cincinnati, O.; Mrs. Maria Daries Nuesch of Keokuk; Miss Lydia Daries, of St. Louis; Mrs. Pauline Daries Heinze, of Newton, Kan.; Miss Martha Daries, a teacher in Prospect Hill school; Miss Christine Daries; Mr. J.C. Daries of the Burlington route offices here. A sister, Mrs. E.R. Haubold, resides in this city; a brother, Mr. John Giffey, in Creston. The funeral will probably be held next Sunday; arrangements to be announced later. (Burlington Hawk Eye, Burlington, IA, February 11, 1904)
