Sharon Kay Schoenewe, 66, of Burlington, died at 6:33 AM Monday, July 7, 2014, at the Great River Hospice House in West Burlington.
Sharon was born January 7, 1948, in Burlington. She was the daughter of Robert and Dorothy Gibbs Curley. On June 1, 1968, she married Thomas George Schoenewe in Burlington.
Sharon worked for Northwestern Bell, was a cook at Burlington High School, and later worked at The Hawk Eye.
She was a 1966 graduate of Burlington High School.
She was a member of SS. John and Paul Catholic Church. She was a past Girl Scout Troop leader, and she enjoyed cooking, boating on the Mississippi River, traveling, and spending time with friends and family; especially her grandchildren.
Survivors include her husband, Thomas; one son, Robert (Stephanie) Schoenewe of West Burlington, one daughter, Robin (Tony) McDermott of Canton, MO, three grandchildren, Heather Schoenewe, Ryan Schoenewe, and J.T. McDermott; two step-grandchildren, Ashlee Blankenship and Truman McDermott; one step-great-grandchild, Skyler Blankenship, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Thielen Crematory.
Visitation will be from noon until 7:00 PM with the family to receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM Thursday, July 10, 2014, at Thielen Funeral Home.
The memorial service for Mrs. Schoenewe will be 10:00 AM Friday, July 11, 2014, at Thielen Funeral Home with Rev. Father Marty Goetz officiating. A time of food and fellowship will be held in the community room at Thielen Funeral Home following the service.
In lieu of plants and flowers, Sharon requested for memorials to be established for Great River Hospice House or her grandchildren's education fund.
