Donald Guy Woods, 87, of Burlington, died at 8:34 AM Monday, July 7, 2014, at the Great River Hospice House in West Burlington.
Born November 18, 1926, in Macomb, IL, he was the son of Guy and Gladys Jones Woods. He married Vivian Brown on December 1, 1945. She died March 7, 1994.
Don owned Woody's Lounge and several other area night clubs. Before retiring, he was a co-owner of the local Anheuser-Busch distributorship.
Daily he studied and followed the stock market. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan. He wintered in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida area for many years. He went to the horse race track everyday they were open in Florida.
Survivors include three daughters, Judy Jean Woods and Nancy Jane (Bob) Simms both of Burlington, Dianna Lynn (Steve) Law of Gladstone, IL; seven grandchildren, Jerry Lee Johnson, Jr., Jeffrey Lynn Johnson, S. Jay Law, Stephie Diane (Steve) Libben, Joshua Caine (Tamara) Law, Lucas Donald (Sheila) Law, Joseph Brett Law; seven great-grandchildren, Zachery Libben, Anthony Montoya, GiGi and Xander Law, Boston, Jaxon, and Laike Law; one sister, Mary Greer of Burlington, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Norma Ingram.
Visitation will be from noon until 7:00 PM with the family to receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM Friday, July 11, 2014, at Thielen Funeral Home.
The funeral service for Mr. Woods will be 11:00 AM Saturday, July 12, 2014, at Thielen Funeral Home with Steve Law officiating. A time of food and fellowship will be held Comfort Suites following the service. Cremation will be entrusted to the care of Thielen Crematory following the service. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery at a later date.
Memorials have been established for Great River Hospice and the Des Moines County Humane Society.
