Mrs. Alma Stottmeister, 95, of rural West Burlington died at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, July 5, 2014, at Great River Hospice House in West Burlington.
Born October 27, 1918 in Flint River Township, she was the daughter of Henry and Bertha (Luecking) Gueldenhaar. On September 14, 1937 she married Willie W. Stottmeister in rural West Burlington. He preceded her in death on October 30, 1991.
Mrs. Stottmeister attended Flint River (Wild Cat) School which was a one room country school. She was an active farmwife and helper to her husband. She enjoyed her gardens, doing yard work and sharing flowers and produce with others. Her heart was being outdoors, taking regular walks on the family farm and rarely leaving Des Moines County. She kept a good house and was a good cook, making the best egg noodles, angel food cakes and Christmas cookies. She was a compassionate caregiver to her bedridden parents. She enjoyed her family, her flowers, her rock garden, feeding and watching the birds and loved her dog Gracie. Her family is so grateful for her many loving and caring years.
Mrs. Stottmeister was baptized, confirmed, married and a life member of Peace Lutheran Church of rural West Burlington.
Survivors include one daughter, Joyce (Edgar) Blow of rural West Burlington; one son, Ivan (Janet) Stottmeister of Burlington; five grandchildren, Eddie (Felicia) Blow, Joann Thomas, Ross Stottmeister, Melissa (Sam) Flores and Liz (Brian) Ross and five great grandchildren, Paige Blow, Peyton Thomas, Parrish Blow, Paxton Blow and Blaine Ross.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter Joann Elizabeth, one sister Freida Krier and one brother Walter.
The family will receive friends at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 10th, at Peace Lutheran Church with the funeral service to follow at 11 a.m. The Rev. Kathleen Wohlers will officiate. Interment will be in Prairie Grove Cemetery.
Memorials may be directed to the donor's choice of charity or Peace Lutheran Church.
