Robert Melvin Brockway, 79, of Burlington died at 6:40 a.m. Friday, December 2, 2005 at Burlington Care Center.

Born August 5, 1926, in Burlington, he was the son of Archie Lee and Ella Mae Gobel Brockway.

Mr. Brockway was a pipefitter.

He was of the Baptist faith. He was a member of the Navy. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and tending to his garden.

Survivors include two sons, Robert M. Brockway of Cane, Illinois and William Lee Brockway of Bluffs, Illinois; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one brother, Elwood Brockway of Burlington; six sisters, Margie Rice of Mediapolis, Eleanor Breuer of Kingston, and Pauline Massey, Delores Christofferson, Gladys Wiley and Marian Andries, all of Burlington; nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, two sisters and one brother.

There will be no formal visitation, but friends may call between 1 and 7 p.m. on Sunday at Prugh's Chapel and from 8 to 11 a.m. Monday before the funeral.

The funeral for Mr. Brockway will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Prugh's Chapel, with Pastor Dean Graber officiating. Military rites will be conduceted by the Veterans Honor Guard. Burial will be in Wapello Cemetery.

A memorial has been established for Great River Medical Center,Hospice.
