Linda Brakeville, 66, of Burlington, died from cancer at Great River Hospice House, on Thursday, March 10, 2011 at 10:05 p.m.

Born on March 6, 1945 in Burlington, Iowa, she was the daughter of Delbert Edward and Lillian Evelyn West Laue. She married Ronald C. Cornick on July 15, 1967 in Burlington, Iowa. He died on July 25, 1970. She married Beverly Brakeville on November 21, 1973 in Kingston, Iowa. He died on June 2, 2001.

Linda was a graduate of Notre Dame High School. She was employed by Benner Tea Co., Morton Shoe Co., Sylvania and Campbell Chain Co. She was a devoted homemaker and daycare provider. She enjoyed her grandchildren, gardening, canning, outdoors, reading, quilting, cooking and baking. She was very dedicated to serving the needs of family members. She was a member of SS. John & Paul Catholic Church.

She is survived by one daughter, Christa Cornick Burrell of Burlington, Iowa; three step-daughters, Kathy Lloyd of Phoenix, Arizona, Martha Mansheim of New Boston, Iowa and Dorothy Sanders of Hills, Iowa; two step-sons, Thomas Brakeville of Middletown, Iowa and Matthew Brakeville of Burlington, Iowa; her father, Delbert E. Laue of Burlington, Iowa; three sisters, Janice L. Heyveld, Sandra K. Ranck and Susan C. Benz, all of Burlington, Iowa; one brother, Gregory L. Laue of Freeport, Illinois; three grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two husbands, her mother, one sister and her grandparents.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Linda Brakeville will be held on Tuesday, March 15, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. at St. John Catholic Church, Burlington, Iowa. Fr. Bruce A. DeRammelaere will be the celebrant. Special music will be provided by the Des Moines County Resurrection Choir under the direction of Diane Mahoney. Interment will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Burlington, Iowa.

The family will receive friends in Prugh’s Chapel on Monday evening from 6:30 until 8:00 p.m.

A Memorial has been established for Animal Protection League and PAWS.
