Phyllis Ethel Thie, 95, of Burlington, died at 12:10 am Thursday, September 29, 2011, at the Great River Hospice House in West Burlington.

Born June 29, 1916, in Chatham-Kent, England, she was the daughter of Arthur Bernard and Eunice Dallenger Madden. On June 17, 1943, she married Samuel Charles Thie in Bermuda. Together they lived in Mediapolis. They later divorced.

Phyllis was a homemaker. She had also worked at IRC and Burlington Medical Center.

She attended school in Bermuda and graduated in England.

She was a member of West Burlington United Methodist Church, Hawkeye Natives, Golden Oldies, Prime Time, RSVP Silver Singers. She played piano at Elmwood Care Center for a number of years. She had volunteered at North Hill School reading to the children and was a pen pal with RSVP in Burlington elementary schools. She enjoyed singing, traveling, baking and loved to knit.

Survivors include one son, Bernard (Marcia) Thie of Mediapolis; one daughter, Marlene Thie Reynolds (Barry Lingle) of Somonauk, IL; five grandchildren, Lonnie (Jennifer) Reynolds of Brinnon, WA, Kevin Reynolds New Smyrna Beach, FL, Marissa Reed of North Liberty, IA, Benjamin Thie of Mediapolis, and Matthew Thie of Arlington, TN; ten great-grandchildren, Nicholas, Olin, Dakota and Christian Reynolds, Eli Harrison, Enzo Reed, Kaitlyn, Brenna, Madden, and Benjamin Cannon Thie; one sister, Doris Sanders of Salem, IN; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother-in-law, and one granddaughter-in-law.

Visitation will be from 12:00 PM until 6:00 PM with the family to receive friends from 3:00 PM until 5:00 PM Sunday, October 2, 2011 at Hass-Thielen Funeral Home.

The funeral service for Mrs. Thie will be 2:00 PM Monday, October 3, 2011, at Hass-Thielen Funeral Home with Pastor Leonard Schantz officiating. A time of food and fellowship will be held at the Hass-Thielen community room following the service.
