Jane Cummins Culbertson Fuller, 92, of Iowa City, died on Thursday, October 16, 2003 at Oaknoll Retirement Residence, where she had resided since 1991.
Born June 11, 1911 in Des Moines, she was the daughter of Roger and Anne Cummins Culbertson. She spent her early years in Worland, Wyoming, and returned to Iowa to attend Grinnell College, graduating in 1932 with majors in chemistry and mathematics.
After teaching in Tensleep, Wyoming for two years, she again returned to Iowa and was married to Lowell L. Fuller on April 20, 1934 in Des Moines. She lived in Burlington for the next 57 years. During this time, she pursued graduate studies and taught at Perkins Elementary School for 17 years until her retirement in 1973.
Mrs. Fuller was a long-time member of First Congregational Church, Chapter HU, P.E.O. in Burlington and later Chapter KZ in Iowa City, American Association of University Women, book clubs and was a former member of King's Daughters. A lover of the outdoors, she was a co-founder of the Burlington Bird Club, and a long-time member of the Iowa Ornithologists Union and The Nature Conservancy.
Survivers include two sons, Dr. James L. (Karole) Fuller of Iowa City and Dr. Charles R. (Ellen) Fuller of Burlington, son-in-law Benjamin (Martha) Williamson of Perry, Iowa, seven grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lowell, her parents, daughter, Anne Fuller Williamson, and foster daughter, Helen Gesmacher.
The family will receive friends in Prugh's Chapel on Monday evening, October 20, 2003 between the hours of 7:00 and 8:30 P.M.
Funeral services will be held in the First Congregational Church on Tuesday, October 21, 2003 at 10:00 A.M. Rev. Shirley Bliven will officiate. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.
Memorials have been established for the First Congregational Church, Iowa Chapter of The Nature Conservancy, and Chapter HU or Chapter KZ, P.E.O.
