Mr. John R. Van Osdol, 83, 900 Pine, died Saturday, November 30, 1985, at Burlington Medical Center.

He was born March 26, 1902, in Des Moines County, to the late Thomas O. and Mattie Walker Van Osdol. On December 25, 1922, he married Hope Sawtell at Danville.

Mr. Van Osdol was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Navy as a chief petty officer. He was a retired district manager for National Guardian Life Insurance. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, past president of the Gidden, member of the Homebuilders Class and Methodist Men.

Survivors: His wife; one son, John Wesley Van Osdol of Cincinnati, Ohio; four daughters, Doris Green of Athens, Ohio, Dorothy Cole of New London, Dolores Plummer of Burlington, and Dolly England of West Burlington; one brother, Wran Van Osdol of Burlington; 11 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, December 3, at the First United Methodist Church, Dr. Robert Dodder officiating. Burial in Memorial Park Cemetery.
