Mrs. Mary L. Carden, 82, died at 2:20 p.m. Sunday, December 21, at her home.

She was born September 3, 1898, in Des Moines county, the daughter of Thomas and Mattie Walker Van Osdol. She married Max A. Carden on August 8, 1921, at Danville; he died November 16, 1976.

She was a member of the Danville United Methodist church, the sewing club, and was a past officer of the United Methodist Women's Association. Surviving: a son, Floyd Carden, Danville; a daughter, Mrs. Kay Wilke, Mt. Pleasant; two brothers, John and Wran Van Osdol, Burlington; five grandchildren, three great grandchildren.

Funeral: 2 p.m. Tuesday, Danville United Methodist church, the Reverend Gordon McMillan officiating; Jaggar cemetery. A memorial for the church has been established.
