MISS VAN OSDOL 89, PASSES AWAY
Retired Des Moines County School Teacher Is Victim of Brief Illness

Miss Martha Van Osdol, 89. teacher in Des Moines county schools for many years, died at the home of her sister, Mrs. Mary M. Boyce, 1315 Angular street, at 3 o'clock yesterday afternoon (December 17, 1931). She had been ill only a few days.

Miss Van Osdol was born on a farm near Mediapolis, February 12, 1842, the daughter of William and Hannah Banta Van Osdol. She received her education in the Mt. Pleasant schools and at Kossuth academy. For many years before her retirement she taught in the schools of this county.

She had been making her home with her sister In this city for the past ten years.

Miss Van Osdol was a member of the Methodist church at Mediapolis and a life member of the Women's Foreign Missionary society.

Besides her sister here, Miss Van Osdol is survived by two other sisters, Mrs. Jane Walker of Mediapolis and Mrs. Minnie Hollinger of Loehrville, Ohio.

The body was taken to the Burnett-Wallen funeral home where funeral services will be held at 10 o'clock Saturday morning. Burial will be in Kossuth
