Henry Martin Walker 1851 - 1929

Henry Martin Walker, son of Levi and Elizabeth Walker, was born January 17, 1851, in Des Moines County, near Tama town in what has since, the early settlements here in Iowa, been known as the Walker Settlement. He was the remaining child of a family of four children, three sons and one daughter.

He died at the Burlington Hospital August 8, 1929, age 78 years, 6 months, and 21 days.

He grew to young manhood in the pioneer home of his parents and on November 9, 1871, was united in marriage with Mariah Jane Van Osdal. To them were born 9 children, five sons and four daughters, three of whom are deceased: Mary, Hewitt, and Grace. Fifty-eight years it had been their privilege to walk together in wedded life. All these years their home has been in the country with the exception of 9 years, from 1883-1892 when they lived in Henry County north of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa.

A familiar and well-known man passed away and he leaves to mourn his going, besides his wife, their six children: Charles W.; and Minnie E. Bridges of Mediapolis, Iowa; Alto M. Griffith of Fairfield, Iowa; Hugh B. Walker of Muscatine, Iowa; and Robert C. Walker of Mediapolis, Iowa. Also 13 grandchildren. The funeral services were conducted at the home Saturday afternoon by Reverend Coggeshell. Interment in the Walker Cemetery.
