Edgar Verne Wilson, 72, of Mediapolis, died Sunday, November 22, 2009, at Great River Medical Center in West Burlington.

Born March 9, 1937, in Morning Sun, he was the son of Harold S. and Dorothy B. Green Wilson. On October 21, 1960, he married Catherine "Kay" Walker in Mediapolis.

Mr. Wilson worked at Iowa Army Ammunition Plant in Middletown, General Electric in Burlington, City of Mediapolis, Blue Bird Midwest in Mount Pleasant and retired from Hawkeye Concrete Products after 26 years. He graduated from Morning Sun High School in 1956 and attended Burlington Business College. He was of the Methodist faith.

He was a member of Moose Lodge in Burlington, member and past Master Zerah of Masonic Lodge in Morning Sun and Masonic Lodge 5 A.F. & A.M. in Wapello. He was a member and past Patron of the White Star Chapter of Order of Eastern Star in Mediapolis, Burlington Chapter 545 of OES and E C Blackmar Chapter of OES in Burlington. He was also a member of KAABA Shrine and Scottish Rite 32nd Degree, both in Davenport. He was a past high priest, past Commander and past Illustrious Master for Yorkrite Bodies of the Burlington Chapter 1, the Zerubbabel Chapter 22, and St. Omar Co 15. He was a member of King's Fellowship of King's Daughters and Sons of Cedar Rapids, Louisa County Habitat for Humanity and Des Moines County Genealogy Society.

He enjoyed antiques, gardening, camping, traveling to Seattle, NASCAR, sports, country music and playing dominos.

Survivors include his wife; one son, Ray Wilson of Mediapolis; one daughter, Catherine "Cathy" Wilson-Lehmann of Seattle; one grandchild; two brothers, Harold R. Wilson of Sun City, Arizona, and Grandview, and Delbert "Gene" Wilson of Morning Sun; one sister, Elaine Green of Erie, Colorado; nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one grandchild.

Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. today at Hagele and Honts Funeral Home in Mediapolis where the family will receive friends following a 6 p.m. Masonic and Yorkrite services until 8 p.m.

The funeral for Mr. Wilson will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church in Mediapolis with the Reverend Jeff Kodis officiating. Burial will be in Kossuth Cemetery. Lunch and fellowship for family and friends will follow at Methodist Church Fellowship Hall.

Memorials have been established for Shriner's Children's Hospitals and Louisa County Habitat for Humanity.
