Mr. Larry G. Hester, 76, of West Point died at 6:27 a.m. Thursday, October 30, 2014, at Great River Hospice House in West Burlington.
Born January 6, 1938 in Burlington, he was the son of Willie and Alice (Cable) Hester. On August 31, 1956 he married Barbara Jean Clark in Monmouth, Illinois.
Mr. Hester worked at Lehigh-Leopold for 20 years, at Vista Bakery and lastly as a handyman, carpenter and laborer for local realtors. He attended First Assembly of God Church in Burlington.
Mr. Hester loved to build things and enjoyed watching cartoons. He was a loving husband and loved his children and grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Barbara Hester of rural West Point; four daughters, Karen (Phil) Szentes of Winfield, Lori (John) Zachmeyer and Kathy (Darryl) Flick both of Burlington and Trudi (Jack) Bates of West Point; 13 grandchildren; 21 grandchildren; five brothers, Richard Hester of Burlington, Raymond Hester of West Burlington, David Hester of Burlington, James Hester of Wayland, and Bob Bower of Phoenix, Arizona; and two sisters, Joyce Pender of Burlington and Marilyn Mullens of Rock Island, Illinois.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Bruce Allen Hester; and two brothers, Wayne Hester and Bill Hester.
The funeral service for Mr. Hester will be 11 a.m. Saturday, November 1st, at First Assembly of God Church with Pastor Walt Graffam officiating. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the time of service. Inurnment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery at a later date.
A memorial has been established for Great River Hospice.
According to Mr. Hester's wishes, cremation has been entrusted to Lunning Chapel and will be accorded following the funeral service.
