Vera Ferne Smothers, 83, of Burlington, died at 5 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2003, at Great River Medical Center in West Burlington.
Born July 10, 1920, in Fairfield, she was the daughter of Russell Arch and Kitty Irene Teeter Gorman. On Feb. 6, 1960, she married Bruce E. Smothers in Burlington. He died Dec. 19, 2001
Mrs. Smothers was a crossing guard for the Burlington Schools for 20 years.
She was a member of First Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include one daughter, Vicki Baldosier of Fairfield; one step-daughter, Sheila Morath of Roseville, Ill.; seven grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; one great great granddaughter; one brother, Leonard Gorman of St. Charles, Mo.; one sister, Bernice Cronk of Burlington; and many nieces and nephews.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents.
Visitation will begin after 8 a.m. Thursday in Prugh's Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m.
The funeral for Mrs. Smothers will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Prugh's Chapel, with the Rev. Gary Chapman officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.
