Ronald Frederick Junker, 66, of Burlington, died Tuesday, November 4, 2014, at his home.

Born August 19, 1948, in Burlington, he was the son of Joseph Frederick and Martha Cecelia Vorwerk Junker. On June 19, 1971 he married Jean Schmeiser in Burlington. They later divorced. He then married Debbie Shriner. They later divorced.

Ron worked for the Burlington Police Department as a dispatcher. He then became a Des Moines County Sheriff's Deputy, retiring in the 1980's.

He was a 1966 graduate of Burlington Notre Dame High School and attended Southeastern Community College for one year.

He was a U.S. Marines Corps Veteran, serving during the Vietnam War with the 1st Battalion 9th Marines Charlie Co. He was wounded and received a Purple Heart.

He was a member of SS. John and Paul Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus #568. He was a member of the Hamilton-Walters Marine Corps League Detachment 616. He was a long time hunter and commercial fisherman. In his early years he loved to Walleye and Crappie fish with his son and in his later years with his brothers. He also enjoyed trapping. He played baseball one season for the Burlington Bees as a walk on after returning from Vietnam.

Survivors include one son, Bradley (Elizabeth) Junker of Burlington; two brothers, Roger (Linda) Junker of Burlington, and Randy (Denise) Junker of Burlington; his girlfriend, Peg Speed of Burlington, and five nephews, Randon, Jason, Justin, Ryan, and Jordan.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife.

Visitation will be from 12:00 PM until 7:00 PM with the family to receive friends following a 5:00 PM Rosary Service until 7:00 PM Thursday, November 6, 2014, at Thielen Funeral Home.

The Funeral Mass of the Resurrection for Mr. Junker will be 10:00 AM Friday, November 7, 2014, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church with Rev. Father Marty Goetz as the Celebrant. Music will be provided by the Des Moines County Resurrection Choir. Full military honors will be rendered by the Hamilton-Walter Marine Corps League Detachment 616. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery.
