Joan Annetta Eland, 81, of Burlington, died at 7:33 p.m. Wednesday, June 4, 2003, at Burlington Care Center

Born August 9, 1921, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Ralph Charles and Johanna Cordula Albrecht Grothe. On January 4,1950, she married John W. Eland in Davenport. He died September 25, 1973.

Mrs. Eland was senior clerk at the Iowa Ordance Plant for 35 years. She was a member of Sts. John and Paul Catholic Church.

Survivors include four brothers, James Grothe of Middletown, Md., Mark Grothe of Burlington, Leo Grothe of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., and David Grothe of Bettendorf; two sisters, Francis Bruce of Joliet, Ill., and Catherine "Kay" Fisher of Burlington; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Besides her husband she was preceded in death by her parents and three sisters.
