Marjorie J. Meyer, 87, of Burlington, died at 9:21 a.m. Monday, March 24, 2003, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

Born December 14, 1915, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Clarence G. and Ida M. Lundstrom Meyer.

Miss Meyer was a teacher and principal, employed for 43 years with Burlington Community School District. She taught at North Hill and Washington Elementary Schools and served at principal of Saunderson, Sunnyside and Black Hawk schools.

She was a graduate of Burlington Junior College, Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls and University of Wisconsin Graduate School of Education.

She was a member of Zion United Church of Christ. She was past president of Des Moines County Historical Society and Delta Kappa Gamma. She was superintendent of primary church school at Zion United Church of Christ for 20 years. She was an active volunteer, Chapter P of the P.E.O sisterhood, Friends of the Library, Iowa Retired School Personnel Association and many other local organizations. She was a great ambassador for Burlington and enjoyed giving tours of local landmarks on behalf of the Chamber of Commerce.

Survivors include three nephews, John C. (Elizabeth) Fullerton of Omaha, Nebraska; Robert C. (Margaret) Fullerton of Highlands Ranch, Colorado and James R. (Sara) Fullerton of Pocatello, Idaho, four great-nephews, Scott Fullerton, Andrew Fullerton, Joseph Hornback Jr. and Patrick Hornback; three great-nieces, Christine Fullerton, Kate Fullerton and Emily Fullerton; and a host of close friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, John C. Meyer, and one sister, Marian Meyer Fullerton.

The family will receive friends following the interment at Zion United Church of Christ Social Hall.

The funeral for Miss Meyer will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Zion United Church of Christ, with the Rev. Gary Chapman officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.

A memorial has been established for Zion United Church of Christ.
