Thomas Pogemiller

Thomas H. “Tom” Pogemiller, 87, of Wapello died Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2014, at Wapello Nursing and Rehab Center.

Born Oc. 22, 1926, in Newport, he was the son of Donald and Mildred Baird Pogemiller. On Dec. 31, 1950, he married Jolene Keltner in Grandview.

Mr. Pogemiller was a hog buyer for Dubuque Packing Co. for 20 years and for the Wapello Sale Barn. In 1943, he graduated from Morning Sun High School. He served as a staff sergeant in the Army during World War II. He was a member of Grandview Community Bible Church and the local VFW. He enjoyed his involvement with his church and time with his grandchildren. He also enjoyed golfing, Iowa Hawkeyes, New York Yankees, refinishing furniture and gardening.

Survivors include his wife; one son, Randy Pogemiller of Iowa City; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and one brother, Jim Pogemiller of Wapello.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, his parents, one sister and three brothers.

Visitation will be from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home, where family will receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m.

The funeral for Mr. Pogemiller will be at 10:30 a.m., Monday, Oct. 20, at Grandview Community Bible Church, with Pastor Darryl Erickson officiating. Burial with military rites will be in Wapello Cemetery.

Memorials have been established for Grandview Community Bible Church and Wapello Library.
