Walter Herbert Riepe 1884 - 1961

Walter H. Riepe, a co founder of Riepe-Peterson clothing store died suddenly at his home Wednesday at 12:20 p.m. He was 77. He was born Feb. 21 1884, in Burlington, the son of Peter and Emma Kahle Riepe. On April 30, 1907, he married Minnie Schulz in Burlington. At the age of 10 years he started in the clothing business as a delivery boy for the
Eisfeld clothing store. Later he and Walter Peterson purchased Eisfeld's and formed what is now Riepe-Peterson. He retired in 1946 after 50 years in the clothing business, selling his share to Walter Peterson. He served as state president of the Clothier's Assn. of Iowa. He was a member of the Oak Street Baptist church, Malta lodge
and AF and AM, BPOE, and a charter member and officer of the Izaak Walton League. Saturday Rites
Surviving are his wife; two daughters, Mrs. Edith Siems, 106 Ash, Mrs. Jeanette Palmberg, 1916 Ash; one son Herbert, 2110 S. 16th; one brother, Roland, Seattle, Wash.; one sister, Mrs. Hazel Roller; Tacoma, Wash.; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. in the Oak Street Baptist church,
Rev. Howard Johnson officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove
cemetery. The body will be taken to the church at 10 a.m. Saturday and will lie in state until time for service. A Walter Riepe Memorial Fund has been established."
