Gene Carol Bozarth, 85, of Yarmouth, died Tuesday, July 7, 2009, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.
Born Aug. 22, 1923, in Mount Union, he was the son of Leland Earl and Laura Walker Bozarth. On Dec. 2, 1941, he married Mildred Coppes in Kahoka, Mo.

Mr. Bozarth owned and operated a gas station in Yarmouth. He worked as a mechanic for the Mediapolis and New London school districts for more than 26 years, farmed and worked for Gabeline Trucking for 40 years. He was a graduate of Mount Union High School. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Yarmouth for more than 50 years, where he served as a deacon for 30 years, and taught Sunday school, Junior Boys and adult classes.

Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Carolyn Williams of Danville, Nancy Vanderwier of Grand Rapids, Mich., and Charlette Mendenhall of Columbus Junction; one son, Wayne Bozarth of Waterford, Mich.; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Garnet Coberley of New London, Ann Levins of Burlington and Joyce Bozarth of Wapello.

He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, three sisters and two grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday at Elliott Chapel in New London where the family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m.

The funeral for Mr. Bozarth will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at First Baptist Church in Yarmouth with the Rev. Paul Hooks officiating. Burial will be in Trinity Cemetery, rural Mount Union.

Memorials have been established for Yarmouth First Baptist Church and Yarmouth Fire Department.
