Gloria Jean Lucas, 84, of Montrose, died 7:03 a.m. Sunday, June 19, 2011 at the Donnellson Health Center in Donnellson.
Born on May 13, 1927 in Des Moines County, she was the daughter of Robert and Gertrude (Lyons) Mehaffy. She married Wilbur Frank Lucas on December 26, 1945 in West Burlington. He preceded her in death November 5, 1997.
Jean was a well known and talented cook for The Pub in Dodgeville and Country Kitchen. She enjoyed embroidery, cooking, baking, gardening and flowers. She especially enjoyed time spent with her family and cooking family dinners.
She was a member of St. John United Church of Christ and until recent years served actively with all church activities and functions.
Survivors include; one son, Steve (Arlean) Lucas of Warsaw, IL; one daughter Judy Nalley of Burlington; 7 grandchildren; 4 step-grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; two sisters; Meredith Mehaffy of New London and Sandy Richard of Round Lake, IL, and one brother Rodney Mehaffy of Arizona.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one son, Reggie Lucas, one granddaughter Angela Lucas, and one brother Jack Mehaffy.
The funeral services for Mrs. Lucas will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 22nd in Lunning Chapel. The Rev. Dean Moberg will officiate. Interment will be in St. John United Church of Christ Cemetery, rural Burlington. Friends may call from 12:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 21st in Lunning Chapel where the family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
Memorials have been established for Alzheimer's Research at the Mayo Clinic and the St. John United Church of Christ Cemetery.
