Grant Eugene Bishop

Grant Eugene Bishop, 78, of Des Moines, former Fairfield resident, died at 9:15 p.m. Monday, March 18, 1996, at the home of his son in Des Moines.

The service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at McLarens Funeral Home in Des Moines, with burial in Westhaven Cemetery in Des Moines. Family visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Bishop was born Feb. 13, 1918, in Waterloo, the son of Benjamin Franklin and Eva Amelia McGonegal Bishop. He graduated from Fairfield High School in 1937. He served in the Red Bull Division of the National Guard during World War II. In August 1945, he married Marilyn George in the chapel of First United Methodist Church in Fairfield. She died January 1994. He was retired from Ginsberg's Furniture Store in Des Moines.

Surviving are two sons, Benjamin and David, both of Des Moines; four grandchildren; two great-grandsons; and a sister, Catherine Young of Fairfield. His parents and a half-sister, Tedda Lou Uzuznis, preceded him in death.
